Private Flute Studio 

Ellen Huntington's private flute studio is located in Naperville, Illinois. Students may be accepted into the studio at any time of the year if space permits. All levels of motivated students are welcome, from beginner to advanced.

 

With over twenty years of teaching experience, Dr. Huntington designs an individualized curriculum to meet each student's needs with a strong focus on fundamentals and the goal of developing a well-rounded, expressive, confident musician. Students also learn important skills to be successful in all areas of their lives, including problem solving, setting goals, and developing effective habits.

 

Students perform regularly in solo recitals, small ensembles, and an annual flute choir performance. Many students also partipcate in local competitions and masterclasses with visiting teachers, and students are encouraged to attend summer flute programs and local flute performances to broaden their experiences.

 

In addition to consistently auditioning into the top ensembles in their schools, students have been selected for ILMEA All-State and Regional ensembles. Students from the studio have earned positions with the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra, Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra, Naperville Youth Symphony Orchestra, and Youth Symphony of DuPage, and have won prizes in the Chicago Flute Club Competition. 

 

Dr. Huntington specializes in collegiate performace preparation. Several students have gone on to study music in college and have been accepted to schools such as Indiana University, University of Illinois, University of North Texas, Illinois State University, Wheaton College, The Ohio State University, University of North Carolina School for the Arts, and others. Many other students continue particpating in music ensembles in college as non-majors.

 

Dr. Huntington has taught lessons through the D204 Indian Priaire School District band program at Neuqua Valley High School and regularly works with students to advance to the top ensembles in their schools, including Scullen, Crone and Gregory Middle Schools.

North Central College
Dr. Huntington teaches flute on the faculty of North Central College in Naperville. Opportunities for flute students include majors in music, music education, and music performance. Lessons and performing ensembles, including concert band, athletic bands, and flute choir, are open to non-majors, and scholarships are available.
